Insert & Overlay Worskshop
Overlay
This is an example of an overlay edit. An overlay edit places a clip on top of an existing clip and replaces that percise section with that clip. To do this, you drag your clip from the sorce panel to the timeline and place it where you want. I decided to overlay the 2nd clip where I did because I wanted to show a different event other than the one that was playing. I did the format incorrectly because i should have put it on widescreen 48khz.
Insert
The difference between an overlay and an insert edit is an overlay is when a clip is placed on top of another clip that basically takes away the piece that the clipped was overlayed on. An insert is when you place a clip in between an existing clip, so it is like a pause.
You would use an overlay in sports while you’d use an insert edit when you are trying to create a dramatic effect and show a different thing then what it is shown previously. In this case the insert edit works better because the overlay edit is slighty awkward and takes away from the action at hand. We formatted this video incorrectly; it is supposed to be in 48KHz Widescreen.
